Waltham II 109 - 8 (42 overs)
Brading 78 - 4 (22.3 overs)
Last season's Combination East Division winners
Brading, won by 6 wickets in a rain interrupted encounter at Albany
Road.
Having
been invited to bat under grey clouds, Waltham's batsmen struggled
against the visitor's accurate bowling. The second wicket partnership
of 58 between the patient Livermore (20) & team skipper Jones
(29) the only highlight in between the rain showers. Waltham eventually
finished on 109 - 8 in 42 overs, with the lower order being unable
to score freely against Kennedy (4-26), L Hailes (1-23), Fleming
(1-28) & Davies (12-3-20-0) disciplined use of the ball on a damp
wicket.
A reduced target of 77 runs required in 30 overs was reached comfortably
in the end, despite the loss of four wickets, with L Hailes (30
not out) eventually seeing home the visitor's. Only Waltham's,
Bowen (10-5-15-1) showed the necessary application of bowling
straight and full on early season wickets.

Springbok,
Sean van Duiker, proved what an excellent acquisition he has been
for Waltham in a low scoring, rain affected game at Rowledge.
Skipper
Rob Bailey won the toss and elected to bowl on a green track.
His opening pair gave Rowledge little respite taking full advantage
by bowling an excellent line and length. Jon Dunlea and van Duiker
returned figures of 10.3-5-14-4 and 12-4-17-4 respectively. Rowledge
finished on 95 all out after 40.3 rain interrupted overs. Interestingly,
all wickets were either bowled or LBW.
Openers
Mike Barrett (35 n.o.) and Rob Bailey (20 n.o.) reached Waltham's
rain-adjusted total of 60 from 28 overs after merely 10 overs,
giving Waltham a maximum 24 points.

Gosport Borough III 148 – 8 (42 overs)
Having
won the toss, Gosport decided to bat first and their decision
was quickly vindicated as Stares (42) & Ford (13) added 50 for
the first wicket partnership in 12 overs.
With
the introduction of Mitchell (3-29), Waltham’s indifferent start
with the ball improved as the visitors then only added 38 runs
in the next 12 overs.
Logan
(1-35) then captured the wicket of the dangerous Stares. However,
Hawes (16), Adams (14) & Freeman (12) then saw Gosport through
to 148 for 8 as Waltham’s Gibson (3-37) & Furlong (1-15) were
unable to see off the tail enders.
Despite
the loss of two early wickets, Waltham’s Livermore (27) & Brown
(18) then added 54 for the third wicket. Finding it difficult
to increase the tempo against the left arm pair of Giles (5-28)
& Freeman (2-15), Waltham lost wickets at regular intervals. Then
after Mitchell (17) was run out, leading a late rally of the home
side’s tail, Waltham were eventually all out for 110 in the 41st
over.

Bailey
& Barrett make hay at Albany
Rob
Bailey (82no) and Mike Barrett (56no), Waltham's prolific opening
pair, secured the 148 runs required to beat Sexton Gould by ten
wickets in the County IV top table clash. Bailey and Barrett made
the most of a depleted Sexton bowling attack in a chanceless knock.
Earlier,
Waltham fielding Ben Simpson and Tom Enfield, two fifteen year
old colts, restricted Sexton to 147-7, with Simpson taking a catch
and throwing down the stumps to remove the patient Wassell for
35. Waltham's bowling attack kept the upper hand throughout with
Sean van Duiker returning figures of 12-5-21-1, but it was Jon
Dunlea who made inroads into the batting by removing the dangerous
G. Locke, caught in the slip cordon by van Duiker with an age-defying
assist from Steve Enfield. R Locke top-scored for Sexton with
43 until he was removed in the last over by Dunlea who finished
with figures of 11-2-33-5.
Waltham
must now capitalise on their excellent start if they wish to achieve
their ambition of promotion this season.

Waltham II 158 – 5 (42 overs) Hayling Island 159 – 3 (33.1 overs)
Hayling Island’s Hallett fired a fine 84 not out as his side secured
a seven wicket victory over Waltham.
The
Waltham innings had somewhat faltered as Hallett (3-33) & J Jones
(2-43) claimed two early wickets. The home side then saw a 112-run
stand between Brown (52) & S Jones (40) inspire the visitors,
along with a quick fire knock of 18 not out from McKenner, to
158 for 5.
Hayling
must have feared the worst when they lurched to 4 for 2 after
the first over as Mitchell (2-34) removed home skipper Shimman
first ball and then Earp with his fifth delivery.
But
Hallett along with Pearce (27) & McDowell (23 not out) hit back
with stands of 100 and 55 as Hayling reached 159 for 3 to seal
victory with six overs to spare.

Waltham
suffer comprehensive defeat at Chawton
Waltham
suffered their first defeat of the league season at the hands
of a Chawton side who played with a greater degree of determination
and application on a "sticky-dog" of a wicket
Having elected to bat first, Chawton's top order showed that patience
was the key to scoring runs. Although the Waltham bowling attack
kept it reasonably tight, the occasional bad ball was punished
with relish. It wasn't until returning off-spinner Paul Woodward
was introduced into the attack, that Waltham took the upper hand.
Despite being hit for three sixes, Woodward's guile kept the Chawton
batsmen guessing and he fully deserved his 6-35 haul. Chawton
finished on 143-9, a modest total which Waltham believed could
be overhauled.
The
Waltham innings started badly, when opener Mike Barrett was removed
for zero trying to force the play to combat Seedwell and Skilton's
frugal bowling. Although Chawton's attack conceded a whopping
28 extras, mainly wides, it was only the patience of Kieron O'Rourke
and Dave Oddie who posted 41 for the fifth wicket which allowed
Waltham to reach 125 all out in the 43rd over.
Waltham
must bounce back from this unanticipated defeat at Gosport Borough
next week with a far more convincing batting display than they
produced at Chawton.

Sensible
batting by old heads Kevin Bowen and Ian Strachan on a rather
dry Albany surface saw the home side to their first win of the
year.
Bowen
(39) and Strachan (38) - runs not years - came together with Waltham
precariously placed at 28 for 4, and the pair added 47 with a
mixture of selective hitting and (miraculously) quick singles,
Strachan latterly needing the assistance of a runner.
Off-spinner
Peter de Cambra (2 for 23) bowled Bowen, but the match turned
when he missed a tricky caught and bowled chance offered by Strachan,
who then struck two boundaries in the same over.
Martin
Livermore (11*) and vice-captain Tony Brown (3*) were there at
the death, leaving Purbrook skipper Chris Berry (0 for 22) wicketless
despite two excellent spells.
Duncan
Garland (33), de Cambra (19) and Berry (17) featured in 2 stands
of 40 in Purbrook's 120 for 8, with Bowen (2 for 17), Phil Dalton
(3-33) and James Logan whose 9 overs realised just 13 runs applying

SCORECARD |
Rob
Bailey's unbeaten 72 was the bastion of Waltham's innings against
Crown Taverners at Albany. Had Taverners taken either one of the
two chances Bailey offered, the outcome might well have been different.
Ably supported by Barrett (13), Gage (16) and Oddie (20no) Bailey
rode his luck and saw Waltham home with eight wickets and ten
overs to spare.
Earlier,
the Waltham bowling attack kept a vice-like grip on Taverners'
batting, restricting the visitors to just 129-9 in 45 overs. The
evergreen, Kev Bowen, opening the Waltham attack was the pick
of the bowlers. Bowen's accurate line and length put the Taverners
top order under considerable pressure and his fine return of 12-2-24-3
was justly deserved.
Paul
Woodward continued his fine form with figures of 8-1-25-3. Only
Griffiths (24) and Comfort (26no) offered any resistance to the
relentless Waltham attack.
Rob Bailey commented "Our bowling and fielding was excellent today,
Crown Taverners would have expected to have reached 200 plus on
that track, so to restrict them to 129-9 was a significant achievement".

A

Nutland tipping the balance in Porchester II's favour by 12 runs.
Home skipper Doug Noyce (34) and ex-Pompey favourite Joe Laidlaw
(17) added a brisk 56, but Enticknap (1-52) clean bowled Noyce.
Leg
spinner Simon Jones (2-44) stemmed the flow, but Nutland (57*)
added fifty stands with Vincent (29) and Docker (22*) as the home
side closed on 198-4. Unconventional Waltham left hander Ian Tromans
exasperated and amazed Porchester on his way to 44 out of an opening
stand of 88, while Jones struck seven boundaries before crucially
falling to Noyce (2-44) for 72.
Nutland,
with 3-43, came up trumps late on, and despite late flurries from
Ian Strachan (14) and Andy Robinson (17), Waltham were left to
rue conceding 37 extras to Porchester's 18.

SCORECARD |
Lack
of depth in batting cost Waltham dearly in their County IV top
table match with Mottisfont who won comfortably by 57 runs on
a scorching hot day.
Put
into bat, Mottisfont posted 212-9 in their allotted 45 overs.
Runs were difficult to come by and Mottisfont had only scored
38-2 from 15 overs. The next 15 overs yielded 73 for the loss
of only one additional wicket, but it was the final 15 overs when
101 runs were scored by the Mottisfont middle order and the Waltham
bolwers were put to the sword. K. Barnes (45), Blake (35), Fielder
(35) and N. Barnes (36) all made sizeable contributions to the
total. It wasn't until the introduction of Steve Enfield (3-28)
with eight overs to go, that Waltham looked as if could make a
break-through and take maximum bowling points. However it wasn't
to be.
The
Waltham innings started brightly enough with Rob Bailey and Mike
Barrett striking boundaries with consummate ease. Once Barrett
fell LBW to N Barnes and then Bailey was caught in the ring off
the same bowler, it became apparent that none of the remaining
Waltham batsmen had the application to stay at the crease and
build an innings. That was until Kevin "Jumbo" Bowen strode to
the crease. His 53 was the only highlight of a performance that
skipper Rob Bailey could only describe as "disappointing". The
better team had won on the day and preserved their unbeaten record
in County IV.

2nd XI SCORECARDS |
Even a passing swarm of bees failed to dent Sarisbury's progress
towards promotion.
Players
and umpires dived for cover in much the same way as the Waltham
fielders had in the first over of the match which in-form Steve
Joyce panned for 16, but the excellent James Logan (2-29) accounted
for Joyce three runs later with one that lifted after going through
the top of a dry surface.
Weeks
(49) struck four boundaries and a six before falling to Phil Dalton
(2- 43), and Simon Jones (1-49) and Ray Mitchell (1-36), who recovered
from his early mauling, ensured that wickets fell regularly.
Waltham
yielded just six bowling extras while Andy Robinson brilliantly
ran out Oliphant for 1 as the visitors reached a hard earned 166-7
through Bond (30) and Saunders, whose unbeaten 24 included a run
out reprieve when a bail was already dislodged, and a bowling
reprieve when the ball rolled into the stumps which remained intact.
Sarisbury
skipper Roberts (4-34) led from the front, backed by Gooch (3-20),
Goodman (2-32) and Bauchop (1-37), as the visitors clean bowled
six home batsmen.
Ian
Tromans (32) and Ian Strachan (29) added 59 in 17 overs, but late
hitting from Logan (18) and Dalton (10) still left the home side
42 runs adrift.

SCORECARD |
Waltham
openers Rob Bailey and Mike Barrett set a club record first wicket
partnership of 240 against Ramsdell in their County IV fixture.
Having lost the toss and being invited to bat, both Bailey (125)
and Barrett (115 no) scored individual centuries as the Waltham
batsmen enjoyed a run-fest served up by Ramsdell.
Barrett
offered three chances to the Ramsdell fielders, none of which
were taken. Bailey was finally bowled by J. Kent (2-26) in the
fortieth over whilst looking to take the score to the 300 mark.
The hard-hitting Woodward holed out at square-leg after a quick-fire
19, Waltham finishing seven runs short of 300.
Chasing
294 for victory, Ramsdell's batsmen applied themselves with a
never-say-die attitude; however, Waltham's opening bowlers, Enfield
and Bowen ensured that the run rate required was always increasing
through their frugality. The introduction of Paul Woodward (12-3-36-3)
and Sean van Duiker (12-3-41-3) led to the loss of six middle-order
wickets, thus ensuring Ramsdell were always going to fall short
of the target runs.
With
plenty of runs available, Waltham skipper, Rob Bailey, introduced
15 year old leg spinner, Ben Simpson for a four over spell with
Simpson taking his first league wicket. Ramsdell's inning closed
at 170 all out, 123 short the target. Skipper Rob Bailey commented
"A much improved performance in total contrast to last week's
lack-lustre performance at Mottisfont.
We
are looking forward to entertaining game against Shrewton at Albany,

Half centuries from veteran Ian Tromans, unbeaten on 66 (runs)

The
pair took the aerial route in an action packed stand of 106 in
just 20 overs which ended in unfortunate circumstances when Pink
was slow to respond to a quick single call from a partner twice
his age.
Rowner's
innings started briskly until the impressive James Logan (3 for
27) bowled Kemp offering no shot to one that nipped back. Jones
(2), Ray Mitchell and Ralph Stansfield took fine catches as Rowner
tried to force the pace on a slow pitch, but Leach (60), dropped
early on off the luckless Pete Boston (1 for 51) who saw two further
chances go to ground, added 81 with late arriving captain Andewelli
(30).
Phil
Dalton (2 for 26) and Mitchell (3 for 24) clean bowled four of
the lower order as the Waltham attack miraculously completed a

Bishops
Waltham maintained their push for a promotion place with a hard-fought

Shrewton
won the toss and elected to bat on a shirt-front wicket. Shrewton's
dangerous Stormouth (23) and chancy Barnett (18) added 44 for
the first wicket in 12 overs before Barnett was dismissed by the
rejuvenated and injury-free Jon Dunlea (8-0-25-3). Dunlea went
on to dismiss skipper Cruse with a ball that legends are made
of; a wide slow long-hop played onto the stumps whilst attempting
to reach the ball, not very pretty! Once again, Enfield and Woodward
kept the lid on the middle order and it was van Duiker who mopped
up the tail with a spell of 4-7. van Duiker finishing with figures
of 10-2-26-4. The Shrewton innings closed at 115 all out in the
40th over.
Run
machines, Rob Bailey and Mike Barrett compiled a stand of 76 before
Bailey was out for 33. Barrett went on to make 44 before he was
dismissed by Law. At 102-1 the Waltham innings faltered with four
further wickets falling before the Shrewton total was passed and
victory ensured. Hughes, Baldock and Stu Bailey making up the
"three little ducks" in the middle order and it was left to ever
dependable Dave Oddie (20 no) and Sean van Duiker to see Waltham
home.
Rob
Bailey put the victory down to "our sheer single-mindedness and
will to win", but warned his players not to get complacent. The
next match is a visit to the Isle of Wight against highly placed

On

Abbott

Last
Saturday saw Waltham travel to Ryde on the Isle of Wight for a
match that had a huge significance for both sides.
Ryde
having scored 200+ runs in each of their home games when batting
first, chose to bat when the toss was won. Gillett and Raby had
35 on the board in seven overs against the Waltham attack of van
Duiker and Enfield who were struggling to contain the Ryde men.
However, in van Duiker's fifth over he struck twice, removing
Raby (14) and number three Tolfrey without bothering the scorers.
Meanwhile, Enfield was piling on the pressure at the other end
and he accounted for Gillett (16), Tiltman (17) and Aussie Keating
first ball. His 12 over spell included 5 maidens and figures of
22-3 including one ball that went for five leg-side wides. Kev
Bowen in his spell accounted for Morgan (13) and the hard-hitting
Hillyard (37) and the Ryde innings closed at 164-8. Waltham is
the first side to restrict the Islanders to fewer than 200 runs
in the first innings.
Aussie
import, Keating and ex-Hants academy trialist Dore kept Rob Bailey
and Mike Barrett under wraps and runs were difficult to come by.
Keating clean-bowled both openers and Dore removed in-form Dave
Oddie and Waltham's top order continued to crumble until at 65-5
in the 29th over Kev Bowen and Stu Bailey came together for what
turned out to be the most significant partnership in the match.
With
Bowen driving and Bailey cutting, the pair added 75 in 14 overs
until Moody bowled Bowen for 45 with the score on 149-6. The excitement
continued to mount with both van Duiker and Woodward losing their
heads and their wickets until Stu Bailey and the experienced Steve
Enfield saw Waltham home in the final over of a terrific match
by two wickets with three balls to spare. Stu Bailey finished
on 41 not out. His brother and skipper Rob Bailey was justifiably
proud and enthused "What a great team performance! At 65-5, we
could have capitulated as we did at Mottisfont, but this time
the lads showed their true character and proved that we are not

Rolfe

After
a rain-enforced week off, Waltham travelled to sunny Cranborne
for a top of the table clash in County division IV.
Cranborne
won the toss and inexplicably elected to bat first on a damp track.
Captain Lee Poore was left to rue his first decision of the day
when Waltham had Cranborne at 0-4 after seven overs. Sean van
Duiker's first spell of six overs yielded 4 wicket maidens for
4 runs in a top class display of fast bowling. Waltham continued
to dominate the Cranborne batting with wickets falling at regular
intervals. After 10 overs Cranborne were 4-5, after 14 overs,
17-6 and the innings closed in the 35th over at 74 all out, one
run short of a batting point. South African van Duiker returned
final figures of 9.4-5-8-6.
After
losing openers Bailey and Barrett with only 18 on the board, the
Waltham batsmen, in a determined mood, set about knocking off
the remaining runs. With P. Park (3-28) troubling the Waltham
batsmen it required two stands of 23 between Dave Oddie and the
ever-maturing Ben Simpson and Kieran O'Rourke and Stu Bailey to
pass the Cranborne total at 77-5 in the 28th over. Waltham leap-frogged
Cranborne into second place in County IV.
Waltham
captain Rob Bailey confirmed "That was as good a bowling performance
from the two openers as I have seen in any league match and it
laid the foundation for a convincing win. We are now looking forward
to hosting Waterlooville at Albany next week".

inspire Waltham. However, the Waltham innings then faltered somewhat
as Mellor (2-29) & Ward (3-19) claimed five wickets and the home
side fell short by 29 runs.

Waltham hosted Waterlooville II at Albany Road last Saturday.
Having finally won a toss, Waltham captain Rob Bailey elected
to bat on a flat if somewhat low bouncing wicket. Three early
wickets fell with only 30 runs on the scoreboard, resulting in
Kieron O'Rourke joining Rob Bailey at the wicket. The pair then
patiently accumulated 122 runs, this fourth wicket partnership
taking Waltham to 152. Rob Bailey scored 103 before being bowled
by Chris Unwins, Kieron O'Rourke quickly following in identical
fashion having battled for a vital 27 runs. The Waltham innings
closed on 173 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Waterlooville's
innings stuttered from the outset, with Waltham's South African
pace bowler Sean Van Duiker proving too hot to handle. Waterlooville
lost 6 wickets for 16 runs in only the 9th over. Relieved to see
Van Duiker rested after a 5 over spell, a further 34 runs were
scored before seamer Kevin Bowen broke the 7th wicket partnership
by bowling Des Langrish. Van Duiker returned to mop up the tail,
Waterlooville finishing all out for a total of 64. Sean Van Duiker
returned figures of 7.3 - 2 - 8 - 8, with 7 of his 8 wickets being
clean bowled.
Bishop's
Waltham maintain their push for promotion to division 3 and look
forward to hosting IBM Hursley this week.

wickets at Cowplain Recreation Ground.
Ian
Tromans (29) struck five boundaries but Mike Patey (3 for 27)
reduced Waltham to 47 for 4.
Adam
Wymbs and Leon Furlong made starts, but James Enticknap (30) top
scored in a breezy knock which included five driven fours and
a six while Phil Dalton (26*) reached the ropes five times but
ran out of partners as Watts ran riot.
A
spirited display from James Logan (4 for 29) helped reduce the
home side to 77 for 5 in reply, but once Davis (49*) survived
a run out scare, Lane (17*) kept him company as the home side
completed the formalities without further incident as early as

IBM
Hursley maintained their push for promotion into County division
3 with a hard fought victory in a fractious game against local
rivals Bishop's Waltham.
The
micro-chip-men won the toss and elected to bat on a fine-looking
Albany track. Openers Rademaker and Chandler compiled a 61 run
first wicket stand against the Waltham opening pair of Sean van
Duiker and Steve Enfield. Unfortunately there was to be no repeat
performance by van Duiker of previous weeks as the Waltham paceman's
first spell went for 17 plus 12 extras and it was left to ageing
seamers Enfield and Kevin Bowen (10-3-33-1) to stem the flow of
runs. Enfield bowling a good line and length was unfortunate not
to have Rademaker back in the pavilion on three separate occasions;
two catches were dropped behind and a very confident appeal for
was LBW turned down. He eventually removed his man in the 22nd
over and finished with figures of 12-5-25-1. Sean van Duiker clean
bowled M.D. Pollard for zero and at 64 for 2 in the 25th over,
Waltham were looking good. However, Chandler and T. McDermott
(57) put on 56 for the third wicket with some excellent running
between the stumps before Chandler was caught in the deep by Rob
Bailey off Bowen for 37. C. McDermott (29*) then joined his brother
at the wicket and between them added 39 before the innings closed
at 181-5.
Waltham
opener Mike Barrett's lean spell continued as Weaver bowled him
for one and Rob Bailey wasn't long following him for 15, dismissed
by the same bowler and at 23-2 in the 10th over, the 182 runs
required for victory seemed a long way off. Dave Oddie and colt
Ben Simpson then put together a 66 run partnership to steady the
innings and it took a direct throw at the stumps to run out Simpson
for 19 in the 27th over. Dave Oddie was next out for 53 and once
again steady, accurate bowling exposed Waltham's fragile batting.
Only Stuart Bailey (23) and Sean van Duiker (17) reached double
figures as Waltham attempted to accelerate towards the IBM total.
Both were caught in the deep off the bowling of Sampson trying
to clear the boundary ropes. The Waltham tail end capitulated
and they were all out for 146, 35 runs short of the IBM score.
IBM picked up 22 points for the victory whilst Waltham gained
only 5. IBM face difficult fixtures away to Crown Taverners and
home to table-toppers Mottisfont in their remaining two games
whilst appear Waltham have the easier run in against Oakley away
and home to Sparsholt II on the final day of league season.

Waltham's
pedestrian batting again failed to live up to sterling efforts
in the field and with the ball as high flying Hedge End ran out
winners by 53 runs at the Norman Rodaway Ground.
Thomas
made 50 for the home side, enjoying significant stands with Wilds
(28) and Noyce (12), while T Bowers (23) and Dashwood (14) boosted
Hedge End from 138-8 to 179 all out.
Skipper
Simon Jones (4-54) extracted turn and bounce from a dry surface,
with Ray Mitchell (3-44) and Alistair Gage (2-39) keeping it tight.
Waltham's reply never really got off the ground, with extras (29)
and Leon Furlong (23) top scoring and double figure scores from
Jones, Martin Livermore and Charlie Farley.
Guy
and T Bowers (both 2 for 19) made inroads and the visitors, who
need to beat Denmead next week in a bid to avoid relegation, closed
on 126 for 7.

Bishops
Waltham took another vital step towards promotion with a convincing
victory against lowly Oakley. Oakley captain Littleboy won the
toss and elected to bat on a green top track. Waltham opening
bowlers Steve Enfield and South African, Sean van Duiker soon
had him regretting his decision. Van Duiker' s excellent season
with the ball continued as he removed Rutt, Landon and Warner
with Enfield picking up Shears with only 23 on the board. Change
bowlers, Paul Woodward (29-2) and Pete Boston (32-1) joined the
party clearing out the middle order. Van Duiker and Enfield returned
to mop up the tail. Van Duiker ended with figures of 12-5-8-4
taking his season's haul to 44 and Enfield kept the runs down
finishing on 10-5-19-2. Only Hodgson (19) and Littleboy (17) scored
any runs of note as the Oakley innings closed at 99-9 in 45 overs.
Waltham
openers Rob Bailey (19) and Mike Barrett rediscovered their early
season form and put on 51 for the first wicket until Bailey played
on to a delivery from Littleboy. Barrett was then joined by Dave
Oddie to compile a 25 run partnership before Oddie was caught
at the wicket off Atkinson for 4 trying to run a ball down to
third man. Barrett carrying his bat for 69* and van Duiker (6*)
then completed the formalities guiding Waltham to an eight wicket
victory in 22.2 overs.
Bishops
Waltham picked up 22 points for the victory whilst Oakley only
picked up 2 points and is now facing almost certain relegation
into the regional divisions. Waltham will be seeking victory against
Sparsholt II in their final league match this Saturday

A
career-best 75 from left-hander Adam Wymbs was the difference
between the two relegation candidates, as the home side's 176
for 7 proved 78 runs too strong for Denmead at the Albany Ground.
The
ex-Waltham colt struck eight fours and two sixes, his knock punctuated
by a series of exquisitely timed drives, none more so than his
first scoring shot which was a straight six!Entering
the fray after J Walker (3 for 19) had reduced the home side to
42 for 3, Wymbs added 89 with skipper Simon Jones (47) who found
the ropes six times before holing out to Lane (3 for 49) at long
on.
Denmead's
attempt to carry the fight backfired as James Logan (3 for 25)
and Alistair Gage reduced the visitors to 42 for 5.
Leg-spinner
Jones (4 for 21) took and astounding caught and bowled, saw Ian
Strachan take an equally magnificent catch at mid-wicket and narrowly
missed a hat-trick as Viney nearly played on.
T
Wright (20) and Lane (33 not out) offered some resistance, but
Gage (3 for 35) returned to wrap up Denmead's innings on 98.
Waltham's
destiny is now in their own hands as they visit Hamble II's on
the last day of the season, while Denmead entertain Hedge End
and Bedhampton II and Hollybank play each other.

1sts gain promotion to County III
It
was a great day for Bishops Waltham as the first team secured
promotion to County Division III for the first time in their history
and the second team maintained their South East II status despite
a defeat at Hamble ASSC.
Having
been put into bat Waltham's batsmen all made contributions to
the 225-8. Dave Oddie contributed 29 valuable runs, but it was
the 100 run partnership between Sean van Duiker and Ben Simpson
that put Waltham onto the road to maximum batting points. Simpson
was run out for 31 with van Duiker scoring 50. Bowen (17) Stu
Bailey (17) and Woodward (16) all scored their runs in quick order
and it was left to Jon Dunlea to clip his first ball, and the
last of the innings off his legs to bring up 225. Rich Edwards
took 4 wickets for the visitors.
For
once, Waltham's opening bowlers Enfield and van Duiker failed
to get a wicket between them and it was left to Kev Bowen 10-2-34-4,
