WALTHAM SEARCH FOR SUNDAY SKIPPER AS BOK SPEEDSTER MAKES IMPRESSIVE DEBUT

Sean van Duiker (pronounced "dayker") acclimatised quickly to traditional English conditions in Bishop's Waltham CC's friendly encounter with Tichborne Park at the Albany Ground.

The South African sent down 8 overs for 19 runs on a slow track, quickly adjusting his length and regularly beating the bat after seeing two shorter balls disappear to the fence.

Timed at 81 mph back home, he also averages 45 with the bat during his time at Pretoria High School Old Boys and Clairemont Cricket Club, Cape Town.

In a rain affected encounter, Pete Boston 3-11 made early inroads before Joyce (31) and Primmer (26) fought back for the visitors. Veteran left armer Steve Enfield (4-37) cleaned up at the death as Tichborne were bowled out for 140 one over short of the allotted 40. Waltham reached 37-1 after 10 overs in reply (Jones 10*, Barrett 15) before van Duiker gained his first sight of the most typical English playing condition: rain.

New Waltham first team captain Rob Bailey will be looking to the South African to push Waltham over the County 4 promotion line so narrowly missed in the past two seasons. Former skipper of eight seasons Simon Jones moves to the second team in Division South East 2, with the emphasis on promoting youth along side the current experienced line-up.

The club are also searching for a new captain for their Sunday friendly team following the departure of John Bardwell (working abroad). Anyone interested in the post should contact Fixture Secretary Pete Boston via the club website www.bishopswaltham-cc.co.uk or on 01489 893949.
