HIGH AYMES FOR WALTHAM YOUNGSTERS

The next generation of Bishop's Waltham cricketers were put through their paces by former Hampshire wicket-keeper Adrian Aymes and renowned coach Pete Haslop at the Rose Bowl. Aymes, now in tandem with Haslop at Hursley Park, generously gave his expertise for free to ten of the club's top young players at Hampshire's indoor school.

Right handed middle order batsman Ben Simpson (who has also won an Academy contract with AFC Bournemouth) was a first team regular last year, Ralph Stansfield played for the second team, while Chris Watson and Tom Scott represented the Sunday side.

Six more joined them for the pre-season master class, with more waiting in the wings according to under-15 and under-13 team managers Ian Burgess and Adam Palmer.

Waltham skippers Rob Bailey and Simon Jones are keen to fast-track the current crop of youngsters into adult cricket, safeguarding the club's future and allowing more aged limbs a well deserved rest.

Waltham are adding a net and artificial wicket for the start of the season, enhancing practice facilities at their already impressive Albany Road ground.

The club runs three junior sides from under-11 upwards, and parents interested in their child joining up should contact Colts' Coordinator Ray Mitchell on 023 8055 2696 or via email at ray@rfmitch.fsnet.co.uk
