Jordan
of Marquis, along with Eric Birbeck, outgoing Chairman
of Bishop's Waltham County Council, include Bishop's
Waltham Colts Cricket Club and Bishop's Waltham Dynamos,
who each received £750, as well as Team Skate and
Ridgemede Swimming Association, who received £500
each.
The
'Marquis Open' Golf Tournament has been going for
about 10 years. It is an annual event comprising teams
of Marquis employees and key associates. As Tim Jordan,
Manager of the Hampshire branch located in Lower Upham
says: "Everyone got involved to make the golf event
a success and I am delighted that so much money was
raised to go towards youth development programmes
in the Bishop's Waltham area."
Bishop's
Waltham Cricket Club was established in the late 16th
century and is today expanding into the 21st century
by developing the existing facility with the recent
installation of a purpose built artificial match wicket
and practice net. The donation of £750 from Marquis
will be used to complete the practice net project
by extending the bowling end.
Commenting
on receiving the donation, Stephen Enfield, Chairman
of the Club says: "The very generous donation from
Marquis will allow the Club to complete the artificial
nets project thus improving coaching and practice
opportunities to meet our youth development programme."
The other organisations receiving donations are also
planning to use their funds to improve their facilities
used by local youths. Team Skate are raising funds
in association with the Bishop's Waltham Parish Council
to build a skate park and Ridgemede Swimming Association
will be using their donation towards renovating the
pool at the local junior school. Bishops Waltham Dynamos,
the local football club, recently suffered a fire
caused by vandalism, which ruined all equipment and
kits. As Terry Wilson from BW Dynamos explains, the
donation arrived at just the right time: "This is
great news for all the kids and will boost everyone's
morale at the club. The fire would have prevented
the children from playing in the next few months but
Marquis' generosity will allow us to replace the kits
and all the equipment damaged in the fire."
The
tournament also raised money for a national charity
based in Hampshire, Leukaemia Busters, which received
£2,500.
