Waltham edge out SA tourists
Bishop’s Waltham 131 for 9 (40 overs)
Gardens Old Boys 99 all out (24 overs)
Waltham chalked up their first international win of the season over groggy Capetown tourists Gardens Old Boys who were recovering from a successful run chase at Berkshire League Mortimer West End.
Adam Wymbs started strongly with three boundaries before being castled by Gordon and wickets fell regularly in humid conditions with run scoring difficult on a rain affected surface.
Gareth Lovett (24) was one of three victims for visiting skipper Dennis (3 for 17) but valuable stands between Rob Crook (18) and Kev Bowen (21) and Chas Farley (10*) and captain Pete Boston (24*) saw the home side close on 131 for 9.
Bowen then ripped through the tourists upper order clean bowling three of the top four and despite a captain’s knock from Dennis, who ended unbeaten on 54, no-one else reached double figures.
Boston and Rob Crook grabbed a brace of wickets late on as the Old Boys ended 32 runs adrift.
The tourists, who leftthe home side’s till full and bar bereft of stock, then headed for a match in Amsterdam and are scheduled to return for a fixture against Kew as well is fitting in a tour of Lord’s.
